Michelangelo loved to draw as a child, and his father placed him under the teachings of Ghirlandaio, After one unproductive year, Michelangelo became the student of Bertoldo di Giovanni, a sculptor that was employed by the Medici family. From 1490-1492, Michelangelo lived with the Medici’s and learned from philosophers such as Ghirlandaio. After an unproductive year, Michelangelo became a student of Bertoldo di Giovanni, a sculptor employed by the Medici family. From 1490-1492, Michelangelo lived with the Medici’s. During this time he learnt from many people, such as Ficino , Landino, and Poliziano. Michelangelo claimed that he had taught himself, however by looking at his artwork there are influences of such artists as Leonardo, Giotto, and Poliziano. He learned to paint and sculpt more by observing than by being taught. Michelangelo was known to be extremely sensitive, and he combined his talent with energy.
