Leonardo Da Vinci

Born: April 15th 1452
Died :May 2nd 1519
Famous for: Italian Renaissance Roman Catholicpolymath: architect, anatomist, sculptor, engineer, inventor, geometer, scientist, mathematician, musician, and painter. He has been described as the archetype of the "Renaissance man", a man infinitely curious and equally inventive. He is widely considered to be one of the greatest painters of all time and a universal genius.
· Leoarodo grew up in his fathers home, he had access to scholary texts owned by family and friends. He was also exposed to Vinci’s longstanding painting tradition.
· When he was 15 his father apprenticed him to the renowed workship of Andrea del Verrochio in Florence.
· Leonardo is famous for his realistic paintings, like the Mona Lisa and The Last Supper. Also for his drawings such as The Vitruvain Man.
· He had a lot of ideas, like inventing a helicopter, a tank, solar power. The Calculator, The theory of plate tectonics and many other things.
· He greatly advanced the state of knowledge in the fields of anatomy, astronomy, civil engineering, optics, and the study of water (hydrodynamics). Of his works, only a few paintings survive, togerther with his notebooks, they contain drawings, scientific diagrams and notes.
· Leonardo had no surname, ‘da Vinci’ simply means ‘from Vinci’. His full birth name was “ Leonardo di ser Piero da Vinci”, which means, ‘Leonardo son on (Mes)ser Piero from Vinci’.
· One of Leanardo’s very famous paintings, ‘Mona Lisa’ which he began to paint on July 9th 1504. He received notice of the death of his father, Ser Piero.
One other very famous painting by Lenoardo was ‘The Last Supper’.
