Leonardo is well known for his two most famous paintings, the portrait of Mona Lisa (1503-1506) which is Leonardo favourite and may become on of the worlds most celebrated portrait in a life time. · Leonardo full birth name was Leonardo di ser Piero sa Vinci meaning 'Leonardo, son of (Mes) ser Piero from Vinci'.
· Leonardo was born in April 15, 1452 in Vinci, Italy in Florence.

The Mona Lisa is the most famous work of Leonardo da Vinci. He started to work on the painting in 1503. At this time Mona Lisa was twenty four years old. He worked on the portrait for four years. It was believed that Leonardo did not sell the portrait straight away, either because he had not finished the piece or was to in love with it. But in 1516 he final sold it to King Francis 1. The characteristics of the portrait consist of the detailed background which disappears in the misty atmosphere. The main feature of the painting is the perfect smile of Mona Lisa. The Last Supper
